Happy Hump Day!!! :)

I meant to share this on Monday and got totally caught up and kept forgetting to hit publish! Wedding season is upon us and surprisingly I only had one friend, G, getting married this summer. Since this was a Nigerian wedding – traditional ceremony and then the church ceremony – there was aso ebi to be sewn:)

If you follow Nigerian fashion, especially asoebi fashion, you’ve probably noticed that most people make fit and flare dresses or some sort of pencil dress. Now I have no problem with that at all except that it’s quite predictable, and for good reason since those are styles that are almost universally flattering. But being tired of the same silhouette over and over again, and also realising that I have not made any trousers – just jumpsuits – I decided this would be the time.

So, I made high-waisted cropped trousers paired with a cropped top – not too cropped though 😉

The colours my friend chose went really well together – a mint green and cherry tomato red. Red and green can be quite jarring and also evoke Christmas but the soft mint was a nice balance for the bold red. This would have been a great time to rock the “avant garde gele” but since I am not a gele tying person, I just let the gele lady do what she wanted – I just asked her to make it bigger to balance out the narrow proportions of my outfit. (Also, it didn’t occur to me) But I’ve been tying my non-gele headwraps in a similar “updo” style for years so I will just continue with that until I figure it out.

Since I am #teamFitBottom, what I realised is that if I want to make this again in lace or any other structured fabric, a princess seam would be helpful for a better line in the back. In its current iteration, this is better suited to fabrics with some stretch. It’s a similar consideration with me for pencil skirts which is why I use stretch sateen for those generally.

I know I’m late to use this particular pose. Soooo late. And yeah…not my pose. I feel like I’m in a military inspection

That’s more like it. Dramatic arms, jingly bangles abound

I also wore the trousers to church on another weekend. I paired it with a black blouse and heels. I will definitely make another pair of trousers similar to this. Anyway, that sums up my outfit.

NB: The beads around my neck are from Abuja – they can be found in the market. I only ever see them in that region of Nigeria. I bought quite a bunch. The rest of the jewelry is Indian – my stacks of bangles had been languishing so it was time to jingle and clink.

Have a blessed day people!
